Title: ICED

Series: Boston Terriers Hockey #2

Author: Jacob Chance

Release Date: November 1, 2019

Genre: Sports Romance

Blurb:

Oliver Ice, one of Boston University’s notorious hockey players, has been on my radar since I slammed into his rock-hard body during my first week of college, three years ago. He helped me to my feet, muttered an apology, and ran off after his girlfriend, dashing my hopes of a happily ever after.

Now, he’s the bartender where I work, and this time, very much single. Night after night I watch the tall, broad, and sexy right winger mixing drinks and being Mr. Personality, while I remind myself how horribly my last relationship ended.

But when Oliver overhears a private conversation, he offers to be the one thing I need more than anything-- my pretend boyfriend at a dreaded family reunion.

One weekend was all it was meant to be.

How do I protect my fragile heart when the lines between fantasy and reality blur with our first kiss?

My Review:

This is the first book I have read from Jacob Chance. I found his unique writing and formatting style to be refreshing and sweetly sweet.

While Ava and Oliver are very well rounded characters, and his secondary characters are on point, I did find a few little things with the story that were a struggle for me. Ava was very aggressive towards Oliver at the beginning of the book, which was a bit shocking considering he hadn't done a thing to her other than not notice her when he was in a relationship. Also at the beginning, there was a moment or two when it appeared as thought Chance took us on what I like to refer to as a timewarp. We went from the male POV of watching Ava dance and then practice, to the female POV and we are back in the club at the end of Ava's dance. I actually had to read the scene a few times for it to make sense. That is a simple beta error that should have been corrected.

I struggle a little in finding chemistry between the 2 main characters at the beginning of the book, once we got into the story, it was easy to spot. I think I would have like to have seen a bit more intimate settings between the two of them to make that chemistry come alive.

Overall, it was a refreshing story. I did enjoy it and the little sports quips from Chance were a welcome reprieve. I do look forward to checking out the rest of this series as it releases.
